The Barbacane room takes is name from the fortification, now disappeared, which defended one of the two main doors of the medieval city. Barbacane is now the name of the district surrounding the guest house. The stones of the fortification were used to build the Saint-Gimer church, a listed monument and the nerve center of the district.
